Innovation talk at The University of Plymouth

I was very fortunate and honoured to be a guest speaker at the University of Plymouth yesterday and had a brilliant two hours sharing my entrepreneurial journey with them.

Much of the talk was based on the innovations within The Gro Company (which I co-founded in 2000) and included the creation and launch of the Grobag, Gro-Clock and Gro-Light.

Thank you to Dr Sarah Preedy for asking me to come along, once again, and speak with her students. She was kind enough to send me this feedback.

'Rob is a fantastic guest speaker for my Enterprise and Innovation module. He shared the ups and downs of his entrepreneurial journey in a candid and engaging manner. The examples used were incredibly useful for my students and aligned with the innovation theory they have been covering in class. The students gained valuable insight into the importance of innovation in obtaining competitive advantage and this encouraged them to reflect on how they engage with their environment to come up with their own innovative business ideas.'

I look forward to my next public speaking engagement. It’s my happy place being in front of an audience. My wish is that at least one person who hears me talk with have the courage to just give things a go, because that’s the only way you’ll find out what happens… and trust that all sorts of unseen things will start occurring to help you.

As the Scottish Mountaineer W H Murray said, ‘Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.’
